Get real. 10GE isn't going to be $20/month for residential access any time soon, especially if you believe that your 10GE pipe should be capable of a constant 10gb/s rate 24/7 with no bandwidth caps. 10GE has just started to become commonplace with corporate MANs/WANs, and the equipment to do it is not cheap; it isn't something that is going to be located at a neighborhood POP, except possibly as a trunk to the provider edge from a local access aggregator of some type. I do not think you will even have 1GE available from a provider within the next 5-10 years. You should understand that the equipment to provide high bandwidth is proportionate to the bandwidth it provides; it is not cheap, and the backbone is under constant upgrade. No one's stuck in the sand, it's just expensive and time-consuming, and you should have some patience. Other countries have an easier time of providing high bandwidth to individuals and families because of higher population concentrations in geographic areas, such as Japan.
